How We Calculate These Figures
Every number on this site comes from a published CSO table. Here is which one, and what to watch for.
Sources
- Airport pages: CSO Aviation Statistics tables TAA01, TAA03 and TAA06 (annual), TAM08 (monthly passengers), TAA04 (aircraft type).
- Destination pages: TAA06, airport by destination country, with lessee-country income from ALIA09.
- Leasing articles: Aircraft Leasing in Ireland, tables ALIA01 to ALIA09.
How the airport series is stitched
No single CSO table covers 2005 to today. We join TAA01 (2005–2012), TAA03 (2013–2019) and TAA06 (2020 onwards), preferring the newer table wherever they overlap. Before publishing, the overlapping years were compared and agreed to within 0.5% on passengers. Galway appears only in the oldest table and has no page.
Units and rounding
Annual passenger and flight figures are published by CSO in thousands to one decimal place, so we show millions or thousands rather than false-precision exact counts. Monthly passengers (TAM08) are exact counts.
Which destinations get a page
A country needs 1,000+ commercial flights a year and at least two Irish airports with 100+ flights each. Regional aggregates ("Europe (48 Countries)"), "Other" catch-alls, the UK's constituent nations and the Canary Islands are not ranked as separate countries, because that would double count.
Limits
- The aircraft-type table (TAA04) ends in 2021, so the aircraft tables are a pandemic-era snapshot.
- Aircraft leasing statistics are industry aggregates. CSO cannot disclose individual lessors, so there is no company-level data here.
- The most recent periods are provisional and CSO may revise them.
